Biological Design

Have you ever really considered the design of life here on Earth? Most people do not realize that every creature on Earth that has an internal skeleton has the same basic skeleton, just configured differently. A giraffe has just as many bones in its neck as you do - seven. Their neckbones are just much larger than ours! Bats and birds and whales have hands just as we have; they are just wrapped up in differently shaped packages.

Ever notice that the human body developes in divisons of five? We have a torso with five major protruberances - head, two arms, and two legs. Of those protruberances, four also repeat this divison of five - five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot. One could even make a weak argument for the division of five being repeated in the head - a skull, a jawbone, two ears, and a nose. As said, this is a much weaker argument than the elongated nature of arms, legs, fingers, and toes.

Have you also ever noticed that as a human develops, it goes through all the stages of evoltion, just very quickly? Monocellular, multicellular, a fish-like stage in which we breathe liquid, amphibian-like stage where we develop a thicker skin but still soft, and then the mammalian stage where we are ready for birth, born, and begin to breath air. It is an interesting arguement for proof of evolution that no one seems to have considered.

If you are going to design biological elements of a story, you need to consider certain aspects of biologial life. In this section , you can find many interesting articles on biological design.
