According to dictionary.com, a biome is defined as "a complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax." When we were in grade school, biomes were generally presented to us under the less complex term "habitat zones." This is a list of all of Earth's major biome types:
